Should Not Be

By happenstance they met again
Two world apart collide
And though the forces worked against
They could not thus deride
Two histories compelled
them both to be only but friends
But lust and age and unfulfillment
Drove them to their end
But happy both they met their fate
Foretold in prophecy
A single drink, a single date
An end to you and me
For magic brought them close
And then it tore them, wrenched asunder
For the universe it knew together we would all go under
